Our Lead Massage Therapist: 

Megan Dempsey, BA, IBCLC, LMT, BCMTB, CNMT

Megan offers Therapeutic Bodywork to people of all ages, men and women! She also has the trainings and education to provide Prenatal, and Postpartum Bodywork sessions!

Megan enjoys a focus in NeuroMuscular Therapy, CranioSacral Therapy and restoring function to the body movement systems by accessing the connection from the nervous system to the muscles in all treatments.

Megan’s Style of Bodywork: 

Megan is a highly trained massage therapist and body worker. She has been practicing bodywork for 16 years. She has a hands on style that has been described as gentle, effective, specific, thorough, and, at times, intense. As a results oriented body worker, Megan’s  bodywork sessions usually result in lower pain, greater ease of movement, and lowered tension in just a few regular sessions. Megan’s clients report a number of other benefits to her style of bodywork: increased restful sleep, fewer muscle spasms, and greater body awareness, to name a few. Megan enjoys taking a holistic and educational approach to improving outcomes and is able to skillfully and professionally discuss diet, nutrition, exercise, digestive health, and numerous other issues that may come up. She will always give you a  referral when necessary! 

Megan working with anyone that is in need of bodywork. She is able to tailor her pressure to meet the needs of those who are new to receiving bodywork and prefer a lighter touch but can also meet the needs of the experienced bodywork lover with a massage of significant intensity. Megan has the skills and experience to work on just about anyone: men, women, children, younger and older. 

Megan teaches new parents how to give their infant a massage. She also enjoys working with pediatric patients on a number of issues: headaches, back pain, scoliosis, etc! She can work with women in any stage of reproduction: general women’s health, prenatal, in labor, postpartum, or those past their reproductive years. 

Megan’s Academic Education: 

Megan also holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Human and Microbial Biology with a Minor in Human Nutrition and Dietetics. She has a breadth of education in the interactions between human body and microbial community, pathology, pathogenic microbiology, the immune system, molecular human physiology, hormone systems, and has had the opportunity to dissect humans in her search for a greater depth of knowledge in anatomy, physiology, and injury. She has gone on to complete graduate coursework in Public Health at Johns Hopkins, Bloomberg School of Public Health, a world renowned institute in public health policy and administration.

Megan’s Experience and Continuing Education in Therapeutic Massage:

Megan is a licensed Massage Therapist that has been practicing bodywork since 2002; and a has been a Board Certified Massage Therapist and Bodyworker since 2004. She, originally, attended Virginia College in Huntsville, AL. She graduated with an Associates Degree in Therapeutic Massage Therapy with over 2,000 hands on clinical hours in 2004!  She continued her bodywork education in Neuromuscular Therapy and has held a Certification in Neuromuscular Therapy from the NMT Center since 2005. Megan studied directly under Judith Delaney, LMT, the brilliant mind and famous bodyworker that developed the American Style of Neuromuscular Therapy, with the help of Leon Chaitow, ND, DO, and wrote the two volume text book, Clinical Applications of Neuromuscular Therapy. 

In addition to Neuromuscular Therapy and Perinatal Massage Therapy, Megan has taken continuing education courses in myofascial release, proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation, therapeutic exercise, kinesiotaping and other types of therapy. In her 16 years of practice, Megan has practiced on therapeutic teams with Physical Therapists, Neurologists, Chiropractic, Medical, and Osteopathic Physicians, Athletic Trainers, Nurses, Nurse Midwives, Pediatric Nurse Practitioners, Pediatricians, Obstetricians, Dentists, and Orthodontists. Megan is currently pursuing certification in CranioSacral Therapy from The Upledger Institute, the Gold Standard in CranioSacral therapy. 

Megan’s Experience and Continuing Education in Prenatal, and Postpartum Massage, Birth, and Women’s Health:

Megan is also an accomplished Perinatal and Women’s Health Bodyworker. She holds a Certification in Prenatal, Postpartum, and Labor Support Massage Therapy from the world renowned Boulder College of Massage Therapy in Boulder, Colorado. Megan is also an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant and has completed extensive internships in hospital postpartum departments. Megan is an experienced and trained and Birth Doula. She has attended over 100 births while living in Denver, Colorado. Megan worked closely with Nurse Midwifery teams, as well as, Obstetric teams. She has supported births in free standing birth centers and hospitals! 

She has supported numerous Cesarean births, natural births, and medicated births and loves and appreciates them all. She has completed continuing education in supporting survivors of sexual trauma in birth, Spinning Babies (fetal positioning), and natural pain coping methods. Megan has also worked with Pelvic Floor Physical therapists to have a greater understanding of how the pelvic floor functions and how to influence this in a gentle way to the body’s awareness of this area.
